🖍️ Image to Vector (SVG) Tracer

Turn a photo, logo, or scan into a clean, scalable SVG — edge tracing, denoising, and curve fitting run on DevForge's servers. Your image is processed for this trace only and not kept.

Renders the result at the chosen size freshly from the vectors — the preview is not stretched, the image is redrawn at full sharpness. That is why 4× here is something different from a screenshot enlarged four times. PNG rather than JPEG, because a traced image is made of large even areas and hard edges — exactly what JPEG answers with smearing.

Point — faithful
Regions — invents edges
Illustrator — few shapes
Triangles — mesh instead of shapes

Circles
Fill is the mode that counts. Circles is the historic first version and stays in for edge comparison.
Zigzag resolves the horizontal streaks and is the default. The other three are there only for comparison by eye.
Only an upper limit. Smaller images stay at their original size — sampling finer adds nothing, the elements are re-evaluated at every zoom level anyway.

About this tool

Turn a PNG, JPG or WebP into a real vector graphic: the Vector Tracer converts pixels into clean, editable paths and exports SVG, EPS, PDF and DXF. Four tracing engines cover the usual jobs — a fast black-and-white/silhouette mode, a "slim" mode for logos and flat artwork with a small number of colours, a full-colour region mode for illustrations and photos, and a triangle mesh for a low-poly look — with controls for colour count, smoothing, despeckling, corner detection and curve fitting.

The heavy lifting runs on the DevForge server, not in your browser, so it works on a phone or a weak laptop. Uploaded images are processed only to produce your vector and are not stored. Zoom and side-by-side comparison, node editing and a palette editor let you polish the result before downloading. Free, financed by ads, no account required.

How to use it

  1. Drop an image (PNG, JPG, WebP). Crop or rotate it if needed.
  2. Pick an engine: silhouette/black-and-white, slim (logos, few colours), regions (full colour) or triangles (low-poly).
  3. Adjust colours, smoothing and detail — or leave the defaults — and click "Trace to SVG".
  4. Compare the vector with the original, edit nodes or palette colours if you like.
  5. Download SVG, EPS, PDF or DXF (for laser cutters and CNC).

Frequently asked questions

How does this compare to Vector Magic or vectorizer.ai?

It solves the same problem — turning a raster image into editable vector paths — and exports SVG, EPS, PDF and DXF. What this one gives you is control over the result (colours, detail, how freely the outlines are drawn) and no strings: no subscription, no per-image credits, no watermark. Those are mature commercial products; run your own image through both and keep whichever result you prefer.

Is my image uploaded?

Yes — this is one of the few DevForge tools that runs on our server, because tracing is far too heavy for a phone browser. The image is held in memory only while your trace runs and is not stored or reused. See our Terms of Service, section 12.

Which input works best?

Clean, high-contrast artwork with few colours (logos, icons, line art, pixel art) traces almost perfectly. Photos work in region or triangle mode but produce large files; reduce the colour count for a poster-like look.

What can I do with the DXF export?

DXF is the format laser cutters, vinyl plotters and CNC software (LightBurn, Inkscape, Fusion 360, AutoCAD) read. Silhouette mode gives the cleanest cut paths.

Why is the result slow sometimes?

Tracing is CPU-intensive and the server processes jobs one after another. A large photo in region mode can take 10–20 seconds; if many people trace at the same time, your job waits in the queue.

Is there a size limit?

Images are processed at up to about 1800×1800 pixels (larger images are scaled to fit); the original resolution up to 1600×1600 can be embedded for an exact-copy fallback.
