Not applicable. DevForge is operated as a sole proprietorship (Einzelunternehmen). As of the "last updated" date on this page, the business has not yet been registered with the local trade office (Gewerbeamt) — see the operating-status note at the bottom of this page. A sole proprietorship of this kind is not entered in the Commercial Register (Handelsregister) even once that registration is complete.

No VAT is shown or charged, pursuant to § 19 UStG (German small-business regime / Kleinunternehmerregelung).

EU dispute resolution

Liability for content

As a service provider, we are responsible for our own content on these pages under general law, pursuant to § 7(1) DDG. However, under §§ 8 to 10 DDG, we as a service provider are not obliged to monitor transmitted or stored third-party information, or to investigate circumstances that indicate unlawful activity. Obligations to remove or block the use of information under general law remain unaffected. Any liability in this regard is only possible from the point in time at which a specific infringement becomes known to us. Upon becoming aware of any such infringement, we will remove the relevant content immediately. This is relevant because DevForge hosts user-generated content — forum posts, project uploads, comments, and team chat messages.

Liability for links

Our offering contains links to external third-party websites, over whose content we have no influence. We therefore cannot accept any liability for this third-party content. The respective provider or operator of the linked pages is always responsible for its content.

2. Overview of processing

DevForge processes personal data to provide user accounts, platform features (forum, chat, project uploads, collaboration) and to operate the platform. Specifically:

3. Registration and user account

When you register, we collect your email address, a self-chosen username, and a password (stored encrypted). Authentication is handled via Firebase Authentication (Google Ireland Limited). To confirm your email address, we send a 6-digit code via the EmailJS service. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract — providing the user account).

4. Minimum age

DevForge is intended for users aged 16 and over. At registration, you are required to actively confirm ("I confirm that I am 16 years of age or older") before an account can be created — registration is technically blocked without this confirmation. This is a self-declaration, not an identity/age verification; DevForge does not verify age using ID documents or similar means, consistent with standard practice for a service of this kind. If we become aware that a user under 16 has registered despite this, we will delete the account. Under Art. 8 GDPR, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 without parental consent.

5. Trusted device feature

To avoid asking for a confirmation code on every visit, we store a marker locally in your browser (localStorage) indicating that this device has already been verified. This information never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us. You can remove this marker or permanently disable it at any time in Settings under "Trusted Devices".

6. Content you upload

Projects, files, forum posts, comments, and team chat messages that you create are stored on our own server infrastructure (see Section 13 for exactly which infrastructure that is right now) and shown to other users depending on the visibility setting you choose. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, and, to the extent content is made publicly visible, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (your consent through actively publishing it).

7. Communication between users

Direct messages and team chats are transmitted and stored in real time via our database, so the conversation history is available when you reopen it. Only the people involved in a given chat or project team can access this content.

8. Analytics

We collect anonymous usage statistics that cannot be traced back to an individual user account (e.g. pages viewed, session duration, aggregate server-capacity usage for our own operational dashboard) through a self-hosted analytics system that we operate ourselves. This uses a random, rotating identifier stored in your browser's localStorage, which is not linked to your user account. This data is stored in our own database and is not shared with or processed by any third-party analytics provider — we deliberately do not use Google Analytics, Google Ads, or any comparable third-party tracking or advertising service.

9. Cookies and local storage

DevForge does not set any cookies. We use your browser's local storage (localStorage) instead, to store technically necessary information (sign-in state, trusted-device marker, anonymous visitor ID for statistics). These are necessary to operate the platform (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in running a functioning platform) and/or technically necessary within the meaning of § 25(2) TTDSG (German Telecommunications-Telemedia Data Protection Act), so no cookie-consent banner is required for them.

10. Fonts and third-party scripts

All fonts and JavaScript libraries used on this site (including what would otherwise be Google Fonts and third-party CDN-hosted scripts) are hosted on our own server. Your browser never contacts Google's font servers or any script CDN just to load this page, and no IP address is transmitted to those providers for that purpose.

11. Security logging

To detect and respond to abuse of our systems (e.g. repeated failed login attempts, blocked unauthorized requests, rate-limit violations), our server records a limited technical log containing the IP address, request path/method, timestamp, and — if you're signed in — your account ID for the specific request that triggered the event. We never log passwords, authentication tokens, message content, or full request bodies. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in keeping the platform secure and preventing abuse). This log is automatically deleted after 30 days.

12. Business and advertising inquiries

If you contact us through a business/advertising inquiry form (e.g. to ask about ad placements or marketplace listings), we process the company name, contact email, and message you provide in order to respond to your inquiry and, if it leads to a booking, to administer that booking. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps prior to entering into a contract) and, where no contract results, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in handling inquiries directed at us). 13. Recipients / processors

As of the "last updated" date above, Firebase is used for authentication only — everything else (accounts, projects, files, forum, chat, moderation data) is stored and processed on our own self-hosted server, not with any third-party database or storage provider. The processors we actually use today, each covered by a data processing agreement and/or standard contractual clauses, are:

• Google Ireland Limited (Firebase Authentication only — login/sign-up, password reset, session tokens) — data region: European Union (europe-west)
• EmailJS (sending the 6-digit confirmation code by email)

We plan to eventually move file storage to Cloudflare R2 and backend compute/scanning to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, both with EU/EEA data-region hosting — but neither is connected yet, so no data is currently sent to them; this section will be updated to list them as processors once (and only once) that's actually live.

14. Retention period

User account data is stored until you delete your account. Anonymous usage statistics are automatically deleted after 90 days. Security logs are automatically deleted after 30 days (see Section 11).

15. Moderation and content review

Where a user has been reported by other users for suspected abuse, illegal activity, or a violation of our Terms of Service, authorized moderators/administrators may review that user's direct messages and project team chats as part of investigating the report. This access is limited to accounts against which a report has actually been filed, is not used for general monitoring, and every such access is logged internally (who accessed it, when, and for which user) for accountability. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in preventing abuse, illegal content, and harm to other users, and in meeting our own obligations as a hosting provider under German/EU law).

16. Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR), and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — in Germany, the authority responsible depends on your state of residence; a full list is available at bfdi.bund.de.

Terms of Service

1. Scope

These terms govern your use of DevForge, operated by Moritz Beyer (see the Imprint). By creating an account, you agree to these terms. Booking advertising or a Marketplace room on behalf of a company is governed separately by the Terms of Service on our Advertising & Marketplace page — not currently open for bookings — not by this document.

2. The service

DevForge is a platform for game/software developers to upload projects, collaborate, and communicate. Features and availability may change over time; there is no guaranteed uptime unless separately agreed in writing.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your login credentials confidential. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, which you confirm by checking the age/terms box shown on the registration form — registration is not possible without this confirmation. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

4. Content you upload

You retain ownership of content you upload (projects, files, forum posts, comments). By uploading, you grant DevForge a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute that content as necessary to operate the platform (e.g. showing it to other users, enabling downloads where you've allowed them). You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the rights to upload what you upload.

5. Forking and contributor rights

Where a project owner marks a project as open to contributors or forkable, other users may join it as a contributor or build on it, per the visibility/forking settings the owner chose. A contributor's changes remain their own content under Section 4 above, but by contributing to a project they grant the project owner the same non-exclusive, royalty-free license described in Section 4 with respect to their contribution, so the owner can continue to host, display, and distribute the combined project. The project owner may remove a contributor's future access to the project at any time; this does not retroactively revoke the license already granted for contributions already made.

6. Prohibited conduct

You may not use DevForge to: upload malware, exploits, or anything designed to damage or gain unauthorized access to systems; harass, threaten, or dox other users; upload content you don't have the rights to; use the platform for any illegal purpose, including but not limited to trafficking, exploitation, or the distribution of illegal content; or attempt to circumvent moderation, access controls, or these terms.

7. Moderation

We may review reported content and accounts, and may warn, restrict, or ban accounts that violate these terms. Where a user has been reported for suspected illegal activity or abuse, authorized moderators may review that user's private messages and project team chats as part of investigating the report — see our Privacy Policy for details on how this access is logged and limited. This is not routine monitoring of all users' communications.

8. Termination

You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at the email address given in the Imprint; account deletion is currently handled by us on request rather than as a fully self-service Settings option. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, in particular for repeated or serious violations of Section 6 (Prohibited conduct).

9. Liability

DevForge is provided free of charge. We are liable without limitation for damages caused intentionally or by gross negligence, and for injury to life, body, or health. For damages caused by ordinary negligence, we are only liable if we breach a material contractual obligation (Kardinalpflicht) — an obligation whose fulfillment is essential to using the service and on which you may reasonably rely — and in that case only up to the damage that was foreseeable at the time the obligation was breached. Beyond that, liability for ordinary negligence is excluded. We are not liable for content uploaded by users, subject to the "Liability for content" section in the Imprint. [[This is a commonly used, defensible structure for German AGB liability clauses (limiting to Kardinalpflichten + foreseeable damage) but it MUST still be reviewed by a lawyer before relying on it commercially — § 307 BGB voids liability clauses that are drafted too broadly or unclearly, and whether this wording holds up can depend on details of your specific service.]]

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features or legal requirements. We will notify you of material changes at least 14 days in advance, either by email to the address on your account or by an in-app notice. Continued use of DevForge after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If you are a consumer and habitually reside in another EU member state, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protections granted to you by mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
