for the Medikamenten-Erinnerung app

Deutsche Fassung

1. Controller

The controller responsible for data processing under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

Moritz Beyer

2. In short

The app itself collects no personal data. There is no user account, no registration and no sign-in. Anything you create in the app stays locally on your device; we do not read it, transmit it or store it.

The app displays advertising. Google AdMob, the service used for this, processes data from your device when it does so — that is technically unavoidable when serving ads. Section 4 sets out exactly what is involved. We deliberately chose the more data-frugal setup and do not add any analytics of our own.

3. Data the app itself processes

Your content in the app (your medications with name, strength and dose, your intake times and schedules, your intake log, your supply and the profiles you created) is stored only in your device's local storage. It never leaves the device. We run no server for this app that such data would be sent to, and we have no access to it.

Uninstalling the app removes this locally stored data along with it. A separate deletion request to us is neither necessary nor possible, because the data never reaches us in the first place.

Reminders are scheduled locally with the operating system (Android: the system alarm service; iPhone: notifications and, from iOS 26, the system alarm function). When a reminder is due, the system shows the medication name, dose and time, depending on your device settings also on the lock screen. We use no push service and no server for this.

Files you create yourself: Only when you explicitly trigger it does the app create a file from your content: a PDF report, a CSV log, a backup (JSON) or a calendar file (.ics) with your intake times, for example as a second reminder or for family members. The file is handed to your device's share menu. The app does not choose a recipient and does not transmit anything itself. Where the file goes (your own cloud, a calendar, a messenger, a doctor's office) is decided by you alone; the terms of that service apply there. The calendar file can also be created without medication names. When you open a file in the app (import, restore), it is read locally only.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

To fund the app we display ads through Google AdMob, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. When serving and measuring an ad, Google processes among other things:

The purposes are serving and billing the advertising, and protecting against click fraud. Google acts as its own controller for this processing; details and Google's current information are available in Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy and in its overview of how it uses data from partner apps at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

We have configured AdMob to serve non-personalised advertising only. Your ads are therefore not based on a profile built from your behaviour. Non-personalised advertising still requires the data listed above in order to be delivered at all and to be protected against fraud.

Ads appear as banners or as ad cards with a small image, clearly labelled “Ad”. Besides Google, a few further advertising partners that Google integrates via AdMob bid for an ad slot. They also receive the information listed above and may use it only for non-personalised ads, billing and fraud detection. Which partners these are is shown in the consent dialog under “Manage options”; the list is short and selected by us. Neither Google nor the partners receive any information about your medications (section 4a).

Independently of this, you can reset your device's advertising identifier or restrict its use at any time in your system settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).

4a. Health-related information and advertising

The information you enter in this app allows conclusions about your health. It is processed exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to the advertising network or any other third party. No audiences, keywords or interests are derived from your medications, schedules or intake log, and no such information is attached to an ad request. The advertising served knows nothing about your medication.

Advertising also deliberately does not appear everywhere: not on the daily overview, not with a reminder and not during initial setup, but only in the medication list, the history, the supply overview and the settings.

4b. Not a medical device

The app reminds you of intakes and logs what you confirm. It does not diagnose, does not give dosage or treatment advice and does not check interactions. It is not a medical device within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2017/745. For questions about your medication, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

4c. App updates (Expo)

The app receives smaller updates – such as bug fixes and translations – directly, without going through the app store. To do so, it asks Expo at start and occasionally when you return to the app whether a new version is available. Expo is a service of 650 Industries, Inc., USA. This request transmits:

Your medications, schedules and intake log are not transmitted. The sole purpose is to provide bug fixes quickly (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; for access to the device § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). Expo states that it participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Details: expo.dev/privacy.

5. Legal bases

Where consent is obtained for advertising, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; you may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Where processing takes place without consent, we rely on our legitimate interest in a financially viable app that stays free for you, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

6. Recipients and transfers outside the EU

Beyond the advertising integration described in section 4 and the update check with Expo (USA) described in section 4c, we do not share data with third parties. Google may process data outside the European Union, in particular in the United States. Google bases such transfers on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

7. Retention

We store no personal data ourselves and therefore cannot state retention periods for holdings of our own. How long Google retains the data collected through advertising follows from Google's own privacy policy (see section 4).

8. App permissions

The app requests only the permissions its features require: notifications, to remind you of an intake; exact alarms ("alarms and reminders"), so the reminder appears at the minute you set; full-screen notifications for the optional alarm mode; start after device reboot, to restore the scheduled reminders; exemption from battery optimisation, so the operating system does not delay reminders; vibration. Internet access is needed to deliver the ads.

9. Your rights

You have the right to obtain access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20), as well as the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Please contact the address given in section 1.

Please note: as we hold no data about you, we cannot identify you within holdings of our own. Requests concerning ad delivery should be addressed to Google directly.

10. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority about our processing of your personal data, in particular with the authority of your habitual residence, your place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.

11. Children

The app is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

12. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here at the time is the one that applies.
